Precision Engineering for the UK's Secure Data Research Network

The Challenge
Researchers across the UK faced significant barriers to accessing sensitive datasets, often requiring long-distance travel to secure data centres. The SafePod Network required a standardised, highly secure, and acoustically isolated environment that could be easily installed within universities nationwide to replicate the stringent security of a traditional safe setting.

The Solution
Drawing on our expertise in bespoke manufacturing and modular construction, Paneltech Industries Ltd was commissioned to manufacture the SafePod. We produced a prefabricated, wheelchair-accessible secure pod measuring 2.66m x 3.33m. Each unit was precision-engineered to integrate advanced security controls—including door access systems and CCTV—while providing a comfortable, ergonomic workspace with height-adjustable desks and air ventilation. Our manufacturing process ensured every pod met rigorous standardisation requirements for data security accreditation.

The Result
Paneltech successfully manufactured and rolled out SafePods to a network of universities and research institutions across the UK. This innovation has democratised data access, removing geographical and financial barriers for researchers. The SafePod now serves as the standard for secure remote data analysis, enabling vital public benefit research to flourish in a safe, controlled environment.
